Break the Boredom: Battle for Bragging Rights with XXXOOO!

Recently my team moved to work from home and while it gave everyone a sigh of relief, it also brought around a new issue. The ability to stay in touch.

While some keep in touch virtually, others focus on getting more creative. In order to break the ice and perhaps also get a little competitive, here’s a fun game that can be played on Google Sheets:

Tic-Tac-Toe:

While the name changes, the rules remain the same:

1.      The game is for two players. One player will use X, and the other will use O.

2.      The player with X typically goes first.

3.      Players take turns marking a cell in the grid with their symbol (X or O). Each cell can only be marked once.

4.      The goal is to get three of your symbols in a row. This can be horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

5.      The first player to achieve this wins the game.

The steps to create a Tic Tac Toe remain very simple:

Create a grid:

•Select cells A1 to C3. Right-click and choose "Resize rows" and set the height to make the cells square (e.g., 100 px).

•Do the same for columns A to C: Right-click the column letters and choose "Resize column" to match the height of the rows (e.g., 100 px).

Format the cells:

•Add Borders: With cells A1 to C3 selected, go to the toolbar and click on the "Borders" icon. Choose "All borders" to create a visible grid.

•Center Text: Select the cell A1, then go to the toolbar and center the text both horizontally and vertically. This will make your X’s and O’s appear centered in the cells.

Add Conditional Formatting to Highlight Winning Lines:

Add Custom Formula for Winning Lines

•Add Data Validation for X and O Input

You can make a copy of the sheet from HERE.

I will share the detailed breakdown in a later post. Have fun with it for now and see if you can replicate the same!

Take care!
